ES-8700 storage servers from EUROstor Gmbh are based upon Open-E DSS V7 software and they provide NAS and iSCSI volumes, optionally FC volumes, online. As of now the servers will use the latest Intel technology with the codename Haswell, currently as a single processor system with E3 Quad Xeon processors, and soon as a dual processor solution. This technology is characterized by high processor performance with low power consumption at the same time. The mainboards are equipped with USB 3.0 interface.

For limited time Open-E, Inc. is offering for a limited time a download of its new Multiple Storage Server Manager (MSSM) Beta for simplified central management of all storage resources for SMB-to-enterprise, big data and cloud computing applications. Registration is needed. The download of version v0.8 is available to all registered users and partners. The installation is fast and can be made on systems running MS Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit), with Pentium 4.2GHz (or equivalent) and at least 1GB of RAM.

When you run a VMware platform there is usually no way around a shared storage system. A SAN is very expensive and you throw away the opportunity of using local storage. Common usage of ESXi hosts and storage Systems on x86 hardware also leads to a dilemma: Standard Servers usually have plenty of CPU, Memory and local Disks. With ESXi Hosts you waste the local storage and with storage systems you waste CPU and Memory.
